The Gilden Tree Story

For Gilden Tree founder, Ann Thariani, it all began with a foot scrubber. She discovered a fascination with handmade terra-cotta footscrubbers while living in Pakistan with her husband, and was inspired to start a business. In 1990, Gilden Tree introduced its Footscrubber® product, different from pumice foot scrubbers because it was made of terra-cotta, which doesn’t wear out like pumice does. Crafted by women in Pakistan who never had the chance to work outside the home, the success of the Footscrubber led Gilden Tree to create a full line of deep-healing foot, hand and body care products.

Gilden Tree’s dedication to the environment includes minimal packaging, the commitment to recycle and reuse as much as possible, and the use of eco-friendly and natural practices throughout its business. Products are also labeled so that they indicate the number of months the product will remain usable after the container is opened. This makes Gilden Tree products a great gift without date or use concerns.

Ann Thariani is also committed to bringing a better life to disadvantaged women overseas. In 1993 Gilden Tree designed a program to give back to the Pakistani artisans by paying for their education and the education of their children. 

The Science

Gilden Tree’s ingredient philosophy is to use natural deep-healing ingredients that have been used throughout the ages. Ingredients such as aloe vera, jojoba oil, shea butter and comfrey extract form the foundation of Gilden Tree products; they’re not just added in trace amounts.
